Importance of Air Receiver in Industry

Air Receiver is an integral part of compressed air system which is used for storing compressed air, being produced by the compressor. In air delivery system, an air receiver acts as a buffer which regulate the high demand of air for short periods, thereby allowing compressed air system to perform efficiently.

Various industries, factories, garages and assembly lines have installed compressed air systems for streamlining their production effectively. With the aid of air receivers, one can effectively operate tools to manufacture products as well as maintaining cleanliness at work spaces. However, using an unsound quality of air receivers can be very dangerous as they experience immense pressure while in operation. Air receivers must be durably designed that is capable of handling pressures of everyday use as well as last for years to come.

In industry, air receivers are consider as a very essential part of compressed air system. The air receivers serve various purposes in addition of improving effectiveness and efficiency of compressed air systems. The primary function of air receiver is to stabilize the pressure within a compressed air system to ensure only required amount of power is being drawn out by air system, thereby maintaining the service life of its parts.
  • Air receiver improve system performance by reducing compressor cycling.
  • Air receivers are fitted with a drain valve for eliminating accumulated moisture.
  • Compressed air receivers prevent liquid to move along compressed air, thereby separating it from air stream.

Air receivers are available in various specification which vary in the basis of pressure requirement, portability, electric requirement, reciprocating, etc. Considering the same, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has developed a standardized quality parameters for manufacturing air receivers to safeguard the compressed air system from excessive pressure.

Air Receivers – The Various Types

Today, most air receivers manufacturers has presented air receivers in varying pressure options to suit the requirement of every industry. The available receiver types include Horizontal Air Receiver and Vertical Air Receivers along with wet and dry receivers.

Vertical receivers are further classified into two types – leg support and ring base. While, horizontal pump mount receivers are smaller in size and have flat top to enable mounting of motor and compressor with them. The quoted design allow them to withstand vibrations generated by the pump and motor.

Wet Receivers are used to add a storage capacity in a system as well as cut down on moisture. They are also effective in removing any contaminants, stabilizing pressure and pulsation reduction. Dry Receivers, also referred as secondary air receiver tank, are typically larger in size. These receivers help air compression systems to accommodate sudden substantial demands for air. They are located after the air dryer and other equipment to minimize the drop in air pressure.
